Blog Tour: If You Don’t Know Me By Now | A.L. Michael

What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
Imogen has come to London to make it as a writer. At least, that was the plan. Finding herself in a dead-end job serving coffee to hipsters was not on her to-do list. And even if gorgeous colleague Declan does give her more of a buzz than a triple-shot cappuccino, Imogen can feel her dreams evaporating faster than the steam from an extra-hot latte.
Until her anonymous tell-all blog about London’s rudest customers goes viral – and suddenly, Imogen realises that landing the worst job in the world might just be the best thing that’s ever happened to her! As long as she can keep her identity to herself…

My Review:

This was the first book that I have read by A.L. Michael and I must say I was very entertained. The idea of getting to see what it is like for a barista who is working hard to fund there dreams. I have witnessed many a person be rude to the person who is serving them coffee and it is a job I could never see myself doing, purely for the fact that I am quite vocal if manners become an issue. I would probably get fired for telling a customer to stick their hot beverage where the sun doesn't shine.

This is a very funny book and the writing is intelligent and very quick witted, making observations about the people around us and how the simple act of ordering a coffee can bring out the most feral of corporate beats. Imogen is our leading lady and I liked her from the start, she is independent and willing to sacrifice everything and make her dreams of becoming a writer a reality. She has no idea in what manner she wants to write, she just knows that when she is writing that is when she is at her happiest.

While she is working at one of London's busiest coffee shops she decides to set up a blog all about the kind of customers she has to deal with on a day to day basis. She does this anonymously writing under the name 'The Twisted Barista'. This blog soon develops something of a cult following and people begin trying to unmask the identity of who this blogger really is. Things happen with her blog, and it puts Imogen smack bang on the tightrope if secret identity balancing to keep her job and not ruin her writing career by allowing people to find out who she is.

Imogen also has a sister who follows her up to London and makes life for Imogen a lot more interesting. Then there is Declan who is the man that catches Imogen's eye, and his approach to getting to know her better I found to be totally endearing and very sweet. Their relationship is an interesting one, and then there is also this other 'woman' who has her eyes set on Declan. I'm not going to say any more than that because I don't want to ruin the fun of you hating this character as much as I did.

Every single character in this book was written with personality, and I think it is so important that every character needs to have some depth and not just be in the book for the sake of it. Every character adds something to the story and it makes the plot thicker and yummier and adds many laugh out loud moments.

This is a wonderful read, and you will be thrilled to know that A.L. Michael already has a couple more books under her belt. So if reading this just isn't enough, then you can fill your self up with plenty more of A.L. Michaels wonderful books.

I gave this book a wonderful 10/10

Here's hoping for a sequel.
