Publication Day Q&A: The Girl In The Ice | Robert Bryndza

Hello folks and welcome to a publication day blog post. Today is the release day of 'The Girl In The Ice' by Robert Bryndza and this is his debut crime thriller novel for Bookouture. I am super excited to have the talented (and rather handsome) Robert on my blog today for an awesome Q&A.
Hello Rob, thank you so much for agreeing to an interview, I am pleased to welcome you to my blog.

Hi Daniel, it's a pleasure thanks so much for having me here.

So tell me a little bit about yourself, where are you from and what do you write?
My name is Robert Bryndza, and my debut crime thriller The Girl In The Ice has just been published by Bookouture. I was born in the UK, and now live in Slovakia.I love to go hiking with my husband and our crazy little dogs. I’m a cinema addict, I love reading and cooking.

What would you like to tell us about your book?
I will give you the book description, which is; Her eyes are wide open. Her lips parted as if to speak. Her dead body frozen in the ice…She is not the only one.
When a young boy discovers the body of a woman beneath a thick sheet of ice in a South London park, Detective Erika Foster is called in to lead the murder investigation.

The victim, a beautiful young socialite, appeared to have the perfect life. Yet when Erika begins to dig deeper, she starts to connect the dots between the murder and the killings of three prostitutes, all found strangled, hands bound and dumped in water around London.

What dark secrets is the girl in the ice hiding?

As Erika inches closer to uncovering the truth, the killer is closing in on Erika.

The last investigation Erika led went badly wrong… resulting in the death of her husband. With her career hanging by a thread, Erika must now battle her own personal demons as well as a killer more deadly than any she’s faced before. But will she get to him before he strikes again?

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find everything and anything can be inspiration. Overhearing a snippet of conversation, people watching, and of course reading.

What can you tell me about your typical writing day and what your process is?

I get up at seven and try to start writing by eight. I write until midday, then break for lunch. I start again at one and finish around three in time for dog walking. For a first draft I try to write 2,000 words a day. From idea to publication usually takes 6-9 months. In the past I have tried writing by hand, but I always get sore fingers and I'm nervous about it just being in one notebook, so it goes straight on the computer and is backed up every few minutes religiously. I have lost work in the past and it was awful. So backup, backup, backup is my mantra.

Can you tell me about your journey to publication with Bookouture? How did that all happen?

I always wanted to write a thriller, and when I finished my last romantic comedy Miss Wrong and Mr Right I knew I had to do it now, or I might never do it at all! I wrote the first draft of The Girl In the Ice on spec, that is, I wrote it without a publishing deal. I sent it to Bookouture through their open submissions, and was thrilled that they wanted to publish it and they offered me a three book deal.

What are the folks at Bookouture like to work with?

They are great. Until now I’ve been a self published author, and I vowed that if I ever signed with a publishing house it would have to be right, and they ticked every box. There is such exciting stuff going on at Bookouture, and they have such a talented team. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.
What do your family and loved ones think of your success?

They are devastated that I write about murder and depravation. They really wanted me to join the clergy…  No, :) :) they are really excited for me.

So what’s next for Robert Bryndza, how is the writing going right now?

I’ve just finished writing the second Erika Foster book which is called The Night Stalker.
