Book Review: The Darkest Night | Gena Showalter

Most people know that I have a big love for Paranormal Romance, I in fact hope to write my own someday. I have recently been on a book buying binge (a constant occurrence I can assure you) with a huge focus on P.R. One of these books was The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter and I must say that before we go any further, look at that sexy cover. A lot of people think that a book cover with a hot shirtless man on the cover is what constitutes a bad cover but I could disagree more. We love the stories in these books but we also love the men in these books, so why not flaunt them all over the cover. Am I right?
So anyway, this book is the first in the Lords of the Underworld series and it is one hell of an opening book. Maddox is hot, tortured and did I already say hot? Ashlyn is one amazing heroine who is not feeble, can stand up for herself and she calls Maddox out on his shit. They make for a great pairing and seeing how their relationship develops is a thrilling and bumpy ride. The basic premise of the story is that the men of the underworld are cursed and each of their bodies/minds houses a demon previously unleashed from Pandora’s Box. Living with these curses isn’t exactly a laugh riot but I swear to you it makes for an incredible story.

This is the first book of Gena’s that I have read and it is a very strong start with huge scope for an epic series of books, which if I am correct is still currently on going. YES!!!!

I do hope that if you haven’t picked up this book yet then please do so, I really enjoyed it and it left me wanting more.

I gave this book a mighty 9/10

Cursed by the gods, bound to a rage-filled spirit he can barely control, Maddox has all but forgotten his humanity – until Ashlyn Darrow comes to his prison in Budapest seeking help. Maddox finds his anger is soothed by her presence. But he can’t help question why a beautiful innocent has come looking for the Lords of the Underworld.

Ashlyn is tortured by voices from the past – and her knowledge might be enough to free Maddox from his death-curse. When an extreme sacrifice is demanded, will Maddox’s superhuman strength be enough to save them both?
