Book Review: My Big Fat Christmas Wedding | Samantha Tonge

A quick note before I start this review, it does not have to be Christmas to enjoy this wonderful book.

My Big Fat Christmas Wedding is the sequel to the award-winning novel Game Of Scones by the lovely and talented Samantha Tonge. We make a welcome return to Taxos and the wonderful world of Pippa and Nico who are getting ready for their Christmas wedding. What is meant to be an exciting time for these two lovebirds, turns into a little bit of a trying time as the foundations of their relationship begin to shake ever so slightly. With the return of Pippa’s ex-fiancé Henrik, he begins to think about the glitz and Glam world of London and starts to question her decisions about life in Taxos.

There is also some slightly odd and questionable behaviour from Nico which does nothing to help the insecurities that Pippa is beginning to feel. Nico’s stubbornness while at times is endearing now on occasion gets quite annoying. Despite how handsome and lovable he is, I wanted to slap him upside the head and shake him as I’m sure many other readers including protagonist Pippa felt like doing on more than one occasion.

There are times where Henrik really annoyed me, and that was obviously the well-written intention of the author. At times I would just wish that Henrik would just go away, and that’s the polite way of putting it. He was a bit naughty in the way he tried to tempt Pippa back into the world that she was so willing to leave behind in the first place.

This is a wonderful sequel to a wonderful book and it continues the story of Pippa and Nico in such a wonderful way that I strongly believe there is room for a third book. Hint hint Samantha! I do think that three books would round up the story perfectly and I don’t feel I can quite done with a magical love story of Pippa and Nico. What is the book 3, there could be a baby on the way. Now I think that would be exciting. Come on Sam, give us readers what we want!

This is a wonderful story of love, complications and scones. Samantha’s writing is always a delicious treat that you just want to eat up and gorge yourself on. These are the kind of characters long after you’ve finished reading the very last page, and I think many of you can agree with me that were all still in love with Nico. Why can’t he be a real person?!

I gave this book a loved up 10 out of 10

Book Review: Deadly Obsession | Nigel May

16:12 Daniel Riding 0 Comments

What I love about Nigel’s writing style, is that is so addictive that you’re instantly pulled into the world he has created. I finished this fabulous book last night, and I was still awake a short while after trying to process what had just happened in this incredible book. As always with Nigel’s wonderful books, there is a sense of voyeurism into the world of the rich, the famous and the sinfully scandalous. Not only do get to see the glamorous side of things, but we also get see the gritty and dirty reality that so often comes with a world of fame, glamour and crime. Each character is so wonderfully connected without them realising it directly, that we are pulled along on this super fast journey of deceit, drama and delicious scandal.

We enter the world of Amy and Riley who are at first glance the perfect couple. There is an intense love there that seems so untouchable, until Riley is killed in a mass shooting at the Kitty Kat club. Not only does she lose her husband, but she also loses her best friend Laura. It isn’t until several months later that a handwritten letter dropped through the letterbox, and leads Amy to believe that her husband is still alive.

We then follow Amy on her quest to reveal the truth about her husband’s alleged death. Bought along the way she finds out a lot more than she bargained for, and majority of it will taint her views on some of the people she cared about. The twists and turns in this story happen at such a pace that you may want to get checked out the whiplash. There are characters you will love in this book, there are characters you will love to hate and there are characters that you will love and lust after and then the most scandalous revelations will flip that lust completely on its head.

This wonderfully written story pulled at my emotions and my salacious need for scandal and cater to both my needs with copious amounts of deliciously constructed story, characters and delicious drama. Nigel has once again created a sexy story that could easily sit so proudly next to the Queen of the bonkbuster Jackie Collins herself.

I gave this book a scandalously sexy 10 out of 10

Deadly Obsession is released 19th Feb as an ebook and paperback - pre-order it HERE

About The Author:

Nigel May has been described as "the UK's male Jackie Collins" and is an author, TV host and journalist. His four fiction novels have all been published by Bookouture.

His first glam fiction novel was TRINITY, an action-packed blockbuster (or bonkbuster) about the lives of the rich and famous. Glamour, beauty, fame and celebrity mix with murder, intrigue and danger to create an explosive novel which gained incredible reviews and fans across the globe. His follow-up was the glitz-meets-grit whodunit ADDICTED which was also a huge success and once again dived into the diamond-dipped world of the mega-rich but showed that all of the money and fame in the world do not always make for a happy ending. His third novel SCANDALOUS LIES is steeped in secrets, sin, sex and scandal and takes readers around the world as a mysterious celebrity disappearance is investigated. His next novel, DEADLY OBSESSION, is a gritty and glamorous psychological tale that is dynamic and thrilling in all areas to the very last page.

His books have been Amazon best sellers, read by celebrities and fellow authors alike, and have proved that a man can successfully write in a 'bonkbuster world' that has always been a strongly female domain.

Nigel was the only male writer amongst 44 authors featured in the chart-topping, beach-read anthology of short-stories SUNLOUNGER. He also contributed a short story to SUNLOUNGER 2.

On television he regularly presents on UK shopping channels where he has built up a substantial following. He has also featured on Channel 4, C5, ITV and broadcast live from America. He is also one of the UK's most popular craft personalities, having launched his own successful range, A-May-Zing.

As a writer he has written for many of the UK's most successful magazines and newspapers, specialising in showbiz and celebrity, as well as writing on subjects ranging from relationships through to exotic travel.

Book Review: New World Rising: Jennifer Wilson

18:06 Daniel Riding 0 Comments

When it comes to reading dystopian novels, it is very rare that I read one without some sort of paranormal element. Vampires, Demons or other such creatures that add a touch of magic to a story. New World Rising by Jennifer Wilson is the first dystopian novel that I have read that doesn’t include a paranormal element, and I absolutely loved it.

This was a story that I easily fell into from the beginning, enjoying the world building and the characters so much so that the world around me and my Kindle no longer existed. Our lead character Phoenix is a strong and tough girl doing her best to survive in a world of destruction, corruption and the fight for supremacy. Phoenix is a girl who has had her fair share of nasty life experiences and she still carries the Demons around in her head. She is a solitary girl who is closed off to the world and the people that could potentially become friends or more.

It isn’t until she sees a young girl being chased after by one of the tribes to something inside her click and she attempts to save this young girl’s life. It’s this singular event that changes the course of her journey and she ends up in a secret civilisation where people are trying to build a life and create an uprising against the feral and political forces that seek to control the world.

Phoenix begins to get close to people much to her in a resistance to exterior affections and relationships. She begins to realise that she does have a natural ability to car for people other than herself, are not aiming yourself up to kindness from others is actually a pretty good thing.

I absolutely loved this book, and ate it up from beginning to end. The ending however was such an epic cliff-hanger that I’m hoping the author can write really fast because I need more books from her ASAP. If you haven’t read this book I suggest you do so because it is one of the best books I have read of 2016 so far, and if Jennifer Wilson keeps writing like this then I can only see wonderful things in her literary future. Thanks to this author I have a new love for dystopian novels, and she is now been added to my list of automatic purchase authors whenever she releases a new book.

An epic tale of survival, conflict and the ultimate search of truth beyond political corruption. New World rising is an incredible read that I highly recommend.

I gave this book an epic 10/10

About The Author:

As a child Jennifer loved getting lost in the stories of others, but struggled greatly with reading. A notoriously slow reader who stumbled with words and spelling, Jennifer shied away from books, leaning heavily on musical theater and movies to get her inspirational fix.

It was not until in her mid-teens, when a persistent friend convinced her to read the Harry Potter series, that Jennifer found her love for the written word. J.K. Rowling’s books opened doors not only to the fascinating world of a young wizard, but to a life filled with a multitude of literary friends and fantastical worlds. Once a timid reader, Jennifer now devours books and loves getting lost in a new series.

When Jennifer is not writing, she is enjoying life in Colorado, rock climbing, camping, exploring new foods, playing with her golden retriever, Duke, and sharing her life with her handsome and wonderfully supportive husband.
